Senator
Dan Lee served three terms in the Georgia Senate, ultimately rising
to become Governor Sonny Perdue’s Senior Administrative Floor
Leader. As Governor Perdue’s floor leader, Dan served as his
spokesperson in the Senate and helped pass Governor Perdue’s
legislative agenda, which included ethics and education reform and
strengthening criminal penalties for the manufacture, transfer and
possession of methamphetamines.
Dan
was the first Democrat to endorse republican Governor Sonny Perdue
championing “Democrats for Perdue” and securing the
endorsement of over 60 sheriffs statewide for Governor Perdue. Dan
was the first of four senators to switch parties giving republicans
control of the Georgia Senate for the first time in Georgia’s
history. Most recently, Dan served as Georgia’s eighth District
Chairman of the George W. Bush for President Re-election campaign
in 2004.
Dan was elected to the State Senate in 1998 to represent the 29th
Senatorial District. He served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Public
Safety and Judiciary Committees and served on the Natural Resources
and Appropriations Committees.
Dan was born in Luthersville, Georgia. He graduated from LaGrange
College in 1981 and earned his law degree from the Cumberland School
of Law in Birmingham, Alabama in 1985. He is an active member of
the Georgia Bar and other professional organizations. He is married
to Susan Holliday, and they have one son, Daniel, Jr. They are members
of the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange.
